Telegram AI agent

A real AI agent for Telegram — DMs, groups, and real work.

Provision puts a named OpenClaw agent into Telegram as a regular bot user — message them in DM, add them to a group, or both. Unlike most Telegram bots, they're not single-purpose: they have their own browser, an email inbox, persistent memory, and the ability to take real actions, not just reply with text.

What is a Telegram AI agent?

A Telegram AI agent is an AI worker that lives in Telegram as a bot user. Most Telegram bots are narrow tools — a price-checker, a notification relay, a /command dispatcher. The newer generation, including the Provision agent, is closer to a chat-native teammate: they understand conversational requests, take actions in the world (browse, email, query APIs), and remember what you've talked about across sessions. For globally distributed teams or communities that already live in Telegram, this is meaningfully better than a /command bot.

How a Provision Telegram AI agent works

Setup involves creating a Telegram bot via @BotFather (Telegram's standard pattern) and pasting the token into Provision. Once connected, the agent works in DMs and any group you add them to, with the same brain, browser, inbox, and memory as your Slack or Discord agent.

  1. 1. Create the bot in Telegram

DM @BotFather, run /newbot, give the agent a name and username. BotFather hands you a token — that's all you need.

  2. 2. Paste the token in Provision

Open the Telegram tile in your Provision dashboard, paste the token, hit Connect. The agent comes online and is reachable via DM in seconds.

  3. 3. Add to groups (optional)

Add the bot to any group chat where the team coordinates. The agent reads messages it's @-mentioned in and replies in-thread. You can have one agent in many groups, or different agents in different groups.

  4. 4. Same agent, same memory, all channels

If you've already configured the agent in Slack or Discord, the Telegram presence shares the same identity, memory, browser, and email inbox. The agent's continuity carries across surfaces.

What teams use a Telegram AI agent for

Globally distributed team chat

Telegram is the default communication tool for many distributed teams (especially outside North America). A Provision agent meets the team where they already are — no forcing everyone to install Slack just so the agent can participate.

Community / customer support

Agents in customer-facing Telegram groups can handle FAQs, look up account status (via their browser logged into your dashboards), and triage real questions to humans — all in the chat where the customer already is.

Personal AI agent on the go

Most people have Telegram on their phone. DMing your agent is faster than opening a SaaS dashboard. Useful for: drafting an email reply on the train, asking the agent to research a topic before a meeting, getting a quick competitive scan.

Crypto / web3 community management

Many web3 communities run on Telegram. Provision agents can monitor announcements, summarize threads, and post updates without exposing admin keys to a bot platform you don't control.

FAQ

Do I need to host my own Telegram bot?
No. You only need to create the bot via @BotFather (Telegram's standard one-click flow) and paste the token into Provision. We host the runtime, browser, and inbox.
Can the Telegram agent send emails?
Yes. Every Provision agent has its own email inbox at @provisionagents.com. From a Telegram conversation, you can ask the agent to draft, send, or check email — they'll do it from their real address with deliverability handled.
Does the agent work in group chats?
Yes. Add the bot to any group; the agent will read messages it's @-mentioned in and respond in the thread. Group privacy mode is configurable in BotFather if you want the agent to see all messages or only @-mentions.
Is the same agent available in Slack and Telegram simultaneously?
Yes. One agent, one identity, one memory — multiple channel surfaces. You configure each channel independently from the Provision dashboard.
How does this compare to building a custom Telegram bot?
A custom Telegram bot is a 1–4 week build: server setup, token management, message handling, integration with your model of choice, deployment, monitoring. Provision gets you to the same end-state in a single OAuth-style flow, with managed updates, browser, and email built in.
Are conversations encrypted?
Telegram bot conversations are not end-to-end encrypted by default (Telegram's design — only Secret Chats are E2E). Provision agents respect Telegram's standard security model. For sensitive data, use the Provision Web Chat widget or self-host the open-source core.
